About Watsu

Watsu takes the gentle stretching of Zen Shiatsu out of the environment of gravity and in to the warm, supportive medium of the water.  Here your body is free to move in ways not possible on a massage table or yoga mat. The gentle, rhythmic stretching of your body allows for a release of stagnation or blockages, which allows the body to restore itself to the natural and balanced flow of life.   The session alternates between periods of motion with periods of profound stillness, allowing your body to integrate new movement or thought patterns into your being. 

All are welcome.  This experience is for everybody.  Floats are used to support any body type; all ages, shapes, sizes and genders can experience the tranquility of being fully supported. 

I am listening to your body, and am present with you the entire session. I intuit the pacing and pressure, and how much your body would like to move or stretch in the water, or  if you need a gentle touch or stillness. Each  session is customized for each person, so at the end you will feel inspired, revived, mentally grounded, physically restored, and that your needs have been met.

What to bring to a session:  Swimwear, towel, toiletries for showering, and hydradtion.  I have earplugs that prevent water from getting into your ears. 

What to expect during a session:

We begin at the side of the pool, giving you time to acquaint yourself with the space.  You will get floats for your legs, if needed.  Then you will be gently guided into a supported floating position.  Your head will be supported throughout the session.  You will feel stillness, then a synchronization of movement with your breath.  Movement will begin gently, then increases as you become comfortable in the water. If you feel yourself wanting to unwind and let the rhytms of your body express themselves, I can follow and encourage that movement. 

At any time, if you have any needs come up, you may communicate that you need something.  Feel free to say something, tap my hand, or just simply stand up. 

When the session comes to an end, you will gently be brought out of your supported position, and into a standing position for a few words of closure, to help you integrate back into the world of gravity.

Precautions for Watsu:  There are conditions where a doctors approval would be warranted, such as Pregnancy, post surgery, Spinal Cord injury, severe high blood pressure or heart issues.  See the Intake form -Watsu  If you currently have diarrhea or open wounds, please reschedule for another time.
